“Why I Started This Blog and My Story”
“Feeling Unmotivated and Living a Boring, Aimless Life”
During high school, I was driven by the single thought, “I just don’t want to get a job,” and approached university entrance exams from the bottom of my class. I studied like crazy and managed to get into Kyoto Sangyo University’s Faculty of Foreign Languages. Honestly, I didn’t care where I got accepted as long as I passed. However, once I entered university, I lost my direction and felt completely burnt out.

I ended up becoming a typical, unmotivated college student with no goals, passing each day in a daze…

“Turning Point in Life”
One day, while passing the time watching Hulu, I stumbled upon1 a show called “The American Success Formula,” which followed two young people starting their own denim brand and striving for success in America.
I was shocked by how different the American culture of “freedom” and “individuality” was compared to the culture of Japan.
I thought, “Is there really such a place in the world…?”
After binge-watching the show, I thought to myself, “I want to go to America!”

Until then, I had never been interested in traveling abroad and had always been content staying in Japan. Suddenly, the world seemed much bigger. From that point, I became hooked on Western music and Netflix, started going to clubs, and my desire to go abroad only grew stronger.
At university, I joined the lacrosse team, and due to my busy schedule, I had to give up on studying abroad. But I couldn’t give up on that dream. While my peers began focusing on job hunting, I decided to forgo employment and pursue studying abroad in the United States.

Upon arriving in America, I realized just how much I resonated with the American culture of valuing “freedom” and “individuality.” While living with people from diverse backgrounds, I felt that America suited me better than I had anticipated, and at one point, I even considered looking for a job there.
I had always felt stifled by the rules and expectations of Japanese schools and society. From student life to the transition into adulthood, there were constant societal norms telling me, “This is what you should do,” or “This is the right thing.” I often felt suffocated by these expectations. But after experiencing the freedom and respect for individuality in America, it was a huge change to feel liberated from that suffocating environment.

However, after returning to Japan, my perspective changed completely. What I had previously perceived as stifling about Japanese culture and values, I now saw as something wonderful and profound. I realized that Japan has its own unique strengths, and embracing them became important to me.
After returning to Japan, I felt there was still something I could contribute here. I made the decision to stay in Japan. After traveling through Europe and India, I eventually decided to start this blog.
Having seen the world, I’ve come to understand the importance of Japanese values and the “spirit of harmony,” and now I want to share that beauty with the world. Through this blog, I want to spread the message of Japan’s values and contribute to a peaceful future by promoting

I hope that by sharing the Japan I came to appreciate after stepping out into the world, I can help create a peaceful future without conflict.
